PCN members in India, Express Global Logistics (EXG) are a renowned name in project logistics and have recently performed another outstanding job involving four 74mt power transformers and all their accessories (including oil drums) from Mumbai, India to Cartagena, Columbia. EXG handled the ship chartering, safe & timely loading, survey and ocean transportation aboard M.V. BBC Niteroi.

Company Director, Mr. Nailesh Gandhi explains; "As this shipment was extremely urgent, EXG had to find a vessel based on an inducement call. With no immediate open vessels in the vicinity other than M.V. BBC Niteroi, EXG decided to ship the cargo on the vessel geared up to 2 x 60tns. Due to technical impediments and safety reasons, the 4 heavy transformers had to be loaded to the ship using external cap floating cranes (RIJA SWL - 240tn). The transformers were taken onto the deck of the RIJA barge and then moved to BBC Niteroi located alongside. 2 of the transformers were loaded onto the tank top of the vessel on the first day of operations and the other 2 were loaded onto the tween deck on the second day. The accessories and oil drums were loaded on to the other cargo holds.

To maintain the tight schedule, M.V. BBC Niteroi sailed from Mumbai port on an urgent basis to the destination port of Cartagena where a heavy-lift shore crane (LHM 400 Liebherr) was used to discharge the cargo.

The entire operation was handled meticulously by EXG's project team with the help of the excellent co-ordination and support from the BBC team".
