Balena Move the World's Largest Excavator to Northern Canada
16th December 2025
Balena Projects (PCN members in Canada and the USA) have completed a remarkable transport operation with an impressive scale and requiring extensive technical expertise.
The project involved the movement of the PC9000, the world's largest excavator, weighing 1,000tn, delivered door-to-door from Europe to Northern Canada.
The total shipment for the project amounted to 2,000tn and consisted of 40 pieces including the excavator itself along with all additional components, each requiring careful handling. The journey began with barge transport in Europe, followed by a heavy-lift vessel for the delivery to Northern Canada, with Balena Projects ensuring the cargo was safely moved at every stage.
After arriving at the port in Canada, the cargo was unloaded directly from the vessel onto trucks, allowing for an efficient continuation inland. Throughout all phases, the heavy pieces were managed with precise coordination, with 31 truckloads organised to transport the shipment to its final destination.
"We are proud to have been involved and played a key role in this project, supporting the complex transport operation from start to finish."
