ScanProTrans & Baggio Cooperate to Deliver in Algeria
17th March 2026
ScanProTrans in Sweden share a recent challenging project to move a heavyweight forklift truck to Algeria with the assistance of fellow PCN member, Baggio Shipping & Chartering.
Commercial Manager at ScanProTrans, Attila Vass explains;
When Experience Meets Adversity: A Logistical Victory in Algeria
In the world of project forwarding and heavy haulage, the straightest path is rarely the one that leads to the destination. We recently proved this when ScanProTrans took on a prestigious assignment for our long-term partner, Kalmar Global. The task seemed straightforward yet formidable - shipping a heavyweight 54tn capacity DCG450-12 forklift truck to the Skikda Port Authority in Algeria.
Precision in Loading
To handle a giant of this size, careful dismantling was required. The unit was secured onto two specialized platforms: an OOG flat-rack for the oversized components and an IG flat-rack plus a DC container for the parts. Everything was set for a smooth delivery to Skikda, but as we know, the sea and the ports often have their own plans.
Navigating the Unexpected
Upon reaching the Algerian coast, reality threw a wrench in the gears. Due to severe congestion at the port of Skikda, the vessel was forced to re-route. Instead of the intended destination, the cargo ended up stuck in Annaba. It is in moments like these that a forwarder's true mettle is tested and you see who has the calm to steady the ship when the winds change.
Cooperation Across Borders
At the client's request, I personally reached out to our trusted PCN partners, Baggio Shipping & Chartering Algeria and their Manager, Amine Lardjane, to resolve the deadlock and arrange the transfer of the cargo from Annaba to its final destination in Skikda. It was no easy feat and significant hurdles were faced, particularly regarding communication with Skikda Port.
A Successful Resolution
We know that persistence pays off and thanks to the tireless efforts, primarily driven by Baggio Algeria and Amine, we successfully navigated the bureaucratic and logistical maze. The problem was solved, the machinery finally reached its recipient, and we once again demonstrated that no obstacle is too great when you have the right contacts and a bit of old-fashioned determination. As we say back home, it doesn't matter how hard the wind blows, as long as you know how to set your sails!
A great example of our network successfully working together and utilising the local expertise of their PCN partners. Congratulations to ScanProTrans and Baggio Shipping & Chartering Algeria for finding the best solution.
